Wheel Guards are a new device that improve operating room (OR) safety, efficiency, and convenience by preventing wheel obstructions by wires, cords, and tubes. When you can move equipment easily, you have time and energy to focus on more important things— like your patients.
Where can Wheel Guards be used?
Wheel Guards were originally designed for use in the OR environment on IV poles, where wires, cords, and tubes obstruct wheels. They can also be used in the Intensive Care Unit, Emergency Department, Hospital Floor, Endoscopy Suite, Cath Lab — any environment with wheels.
How do I know that Wheel Guards will work on our IV poles?
Wheel guards work on most IV pole wheels. Take a look at the photos in the Wheel Gallery to identify your IV poles. If you don’t see your IV poles with Wheel Guards pictured, you can send a message and we’ll help you determine whether they’re compatible.
Have Wheel Guards been used in the clinical setting?
Yes, Wheel Guards have been used in the OR, Endoscopy Suites, and Cardiac Cath Labs at Stanford University Medical Center to prevent wire obstructions since early 2023. See the Testimonials for staff reactions.
Do Wheel Guards require any special certification to use in the operating room?
No, there is no special certification required to use these devices.
What are Wheel Guards made from?
Wheel Guards are made from highly durable and impact-resistant pelletized polypropylene plastic reclaimed from marine applications like commercial fishing ropes and oyster nets.
Can the Wheel Guards be cleaned?
Yes. The polypropylene can be cleaned with standard cleaning solutions.
Are Wheel Guards disposable?
No, Wheel Guards should last for a long time.
Is there a warranty?
Yes, if you are not satisfied with one of our products at the time you receive it, or if one of our products does not perform to your satisfaction, contact us for a replacement or refund.
Are Wheel Guards available for other devices besides IV poles?
Wheel Guards will soon be available for other equipment used in the medical setting like medication dispensing units, anesthesia supply carts, ultrasound machines, suction and electrocautery machine carts, etc.
Do Wheel Guards require assembly?
No, Wheel Guards come fully-assembled.
What does the metal wire do?`
The metal wire is a stainless steel spring that prevents the Wheel Guards from falling off the wheel if the IV pole is tilted or lifted off the ground.
